Flights

Group members are responsible for their own flight schedules and ticketing. You may book directly with your preferred airline or travel agent. Some may wish to arrive early or depart later, which may incur additional hotel nights and private airport transfers not included in the program fee. Travel the Text will provide as much assistance and flexibility as possible. Please reach out with any questions you may have as you finalize your travel plans so we can help ensure your travel is as smooth as possible.

With any questions please contact us by email to: Jamie@travelthetext.com

The recommended group flight is detailed below, and the included airport transfers will be scheduled according to the group flight arrival and departure times.

RECOMMENDED GROUP FLIGHT ITINERARY

The recommended group flight itinerary outlined above should be booked directly through American Airlines. You can view this itinerary from this link to Google Flights: https://www.google.com/travel/flights/s/6ouoFrgwa4BwUmCN8

This flight offers a NON-STOP flight from DFW to Amman, Jordan which is great! For this trip itinerary, we’ve opted to recommend the multi-city ticket arriving into Amman, Jordan and departing from Tel Aviv.

This saves us at least a couple hundred dollars per person than if we alternately crossed back into Jordan, requiring transportation, additional visa fees, and possibly another hotel night. It also provides a bit more stability for flight cancellations, as either Israel or Jordan can cause the entire ticket to cancel. We are negotiating for more flexibility in our refund policy in the case flights are cancelled, as this is the biggest and most likely indicator for if travel at any travel date is recommended. The return flight is from Tel Aviv with a late departure (12:20 am, March 25, but you’d arrive to the airport by 9:20 pm March 24. This allows an overnight flight immediately on departure, and is much better for re-entry jet lag. We love these flights when we can offer them, and will arrive early enough to the airport for plenty of time to sort suitcases and change into travel clothes and freshen up before travel. We’ll see just enough sites the final day to ensure you can sleep well!

Please reach out to Jamie@travelthetext.com with any questions regarding finalizing the best flight option for you.

*NOTE: Please remember that the included airport transfers will be scheduled according to the primary group flight itinerary. You are welcome to arrive or depart on different flights/times/days but are responsible for any additional transfer or accommodation fees outside of this program itinerary.

Physical Endurance

***This study program is only suitable for those who are physically able to walk a minimum of 3-5 miles per day, on a variety of terrain. The risk of injury from falls is high for those with mobility impairments, and for your well-being, we cannot recommend this program for you.***

Many days there are optional hikes for the more active in the group, with alternative transportation or activities available for those who need or prefer it. However, to reach most of the teaching sites, each day will require at least 3-5 miles of walking over a variety of terrain including pavement, dirt, cobbled, gravel, and worn (slippery) stone. Expect to be walking up and down hills, in varying weather.

PREPARE: To prepare for this trip, take stairs instead of elevators, go for daily walks (with incline if possible), or engage in other cardio activities. This will allow you to get the most out of your experience with less fatigue as we make the most of each day in the land of the Bible.

For those with limited mobility, we can often advise you about which sites are more physically demanding, so you can make decisions on when to sit one out, to save energy for other experiences. Please note that this Jordan & Israel program itinerary is more physically demanding than some of our other programs. Most of those on our trips are able to fully participate in over 80%+ of the sites, even if some need to skip the optional hikes, or more physically demanding sites.

SUPPORT: We ask those with limited mobility who dream of journeying to the land of the Bible to share your concerns with your group leader, and to have humble conversations to discern if this trip is a good option for you physical ability. On arrival, please be willing to advise Travel the Text’s Geoff Carroll of any mobility concerns so we can continue to advise and support you.

PASSPORT

You must have a passport for international travel and it must be not expire for at least 6 months after your departure from Israel or it must be renewed prior to travel. For this trip itinerary this means your passport must not expire prior to September 25, 2027 or it must be renewed prior to travel.

Passport renewal information: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/renew.html

Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL)

As of January 1, 2025, U.S. citizens need an approved Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA-IL) to visit Israel for tourism or business. The ETA-IL is valid for two years or until your passport expires, whichever is shorter. Many countries are increasingly requiring something similar for those eligible for “visa free” travel to their countries. It is a simple (though perhaps tedious) process, with about a $7 (25 shekel), and most often approved within minutes.

We will advise you closer to your travel dates with any updates on how to secure this for your trip.

Travel Visas

USA passport holders do require a purchased visa (est. $60) for entering and re-entering Jordan. We will process these on your behalf in advance of the trip, and the fees are included in the Program Fee. If you do not have a USA Passport, please ensure we have your complete details so we can secure your ability to seamlessly enter/exit Israel and Jordan. The travel crossing we are using are convenient and easy to you, and this helps us ensure we are prepared well in advance.
